Born in 1181 A.D., the son of a wealthy Merchant, Francis gave up everything to follow in the footsteps of Lord Jesus Christ. He lived in complete poverty, preaching the Gospel. Others came to join him, and they lived by a simple rule based on the gospel. From them grew the Franciscan Order which spread rapidly during his own life time. His life was putting into practice of the beatitudes and was marked by faith, joy, service of others and loves of all created things. Francis was perfectly in harmony with nature. He has rightly been acclaimed as the person who understood nature and loved nature and all creatures.
It is today we need men like St. Francis of Assisi to save and love nature and creatures. Let us pray to him to help us save our Planet Earth.
